Shnuggle Modern Moses Basket (Blossom Pink)

Loved it but worryingly it developed mould on the covers my baby slept in a sleep pod so I know it didn't get wet. And it didn't come off in the wash

A very nice basket despite the baby refusing to sleep in it. We went for a chicco next to me instead and sold this one.

I looked at loads of moses baskets in several different shops before I bought this. Most of them were cheap weaves that would collapse easily, or had bits of metal in places where the baby could catch his legs or arms. This one is really solid, but still light and wide. Great product.

Bought because of looks and the claims of quietness, this is a rolls-royce moses basket. Made of plastic, with breathing holes in the bottom, it is generously sized - if anything a little bigger than standard. It comes with a mattress, hood, mini duvet and sheet/liner. It's got fabric handles which, combined with the slight "give" in the plastic, make it easy to carry.What it doesn't come with is a stand, so you're going to have to buy one. Given the size, I'm not sure whether a regular moses basket stand will fit, so you'll probably end up spending another 20quid on the stand to bring the total cost close to 100.In use it's OK. Baby sleeps well enough and it's simple to carry. The hood stays in place nicely and provides good shade, but it's reinforced with plastic hoops and attached with plastic bolts, which are very fragile - one of mine broke before baby even got to sleep in it and had to be replaced by a metal bolt from a hardware store.One of the big selling points is that it's quiet. This is certainly true, there's none of the creaking that you would associate with a woven basket. That said, my recent experience is that the baby itself is likely to make more noise than the basket, regardless of construction, so the value of the "silent basket" is limited. The big plus fro me is that it's made from an inorganic material... so it doesn't matter if it gets damp, it's not going to degrade and perish, go mouldy or anything else nasty. This should mean that you can put it in the loft when you're done and can safely take it down when baby no2 (3, 4, 5 etc) arrive. If you don't plan to have another baby it probably also means you stand a better chance of selling it on eBay for a moderate price.After 2 months of baby sleeping various between the moses basket (which we leave upstairs) and a carry-cot that we have downstairs, we've noticed that baby sleeps much better on the mattress in the carry-cot. Comparing the two, the carry-cot mattress seems to be a slightly softer foam which has ventilation holes cut through to help air-flow, it's also got a much softer bamboo-fibre cover. We've ordered a custom replacement mattress for the Shnuggle - it's an extra £60 so this moses basket has worked out even more expensive than we first thought. It's still a nicely made piece of kit but think twice about the investment and how much use you will get from it.All things considered, it's a well thought out product that is mostly well executed. But it is extremely expensive, and our little one really hasn't got on with the mattress so it loses one star for value and another for performance.
