Can't beat the quality of the Rode NTG3 at this price point
I have been a broadcaster and voice actor since 1978. I've used just about every brand of VO mic out there and while there are better mics than the RodeNTG3, I've not found one that's better at this price point. Many compare the NTG3 to the Sennheiser MKH-416 and while the 416 is a fine microphone, my own personal preference is the NTG3. It just suits my voice better. And that's the thing: some mics are more conducive to certain types of voices or vocal styles and delivery than others. Mics are not "one size fits all". There are some retailers that will actually let you try a mic before you buy it. That's never a bad idea. I've used $5000 mics that just don't work to my voice's advantage and for me to purchase them, would be a waste of money.I chain my NTG3 with a dbx286s preamp and Focusrite 2i2 digital interface and get stellar results. That's about $1000 worth of gear which for many isn't cheap but in the world of audio recording/production gear, it actually is. But I've had New York and LA engineers ask me what I'm using to get such a great sound. That's all the confirmation I need. The Neumann U87 is my absolute favorite mic but at a $3,000+ price point, it's just not feasible for most people in a home studio environment. But for @ $600-700, the RodeNTG3 is my mic of choice. It's also a workhorse and will last a lifetime. A great buy.

Awesome MIC
I have a few good mics and I thought the Rode NTG3 would be good but I underestimated just how good. Excellent sound quality with a lot of surrounding noise held to a minimum.

Four Stars
I like it very much, maybe the shotgun isn't very large but it has a very professional quality.

Well worth cosidering.
The Rode NTG3 is a little different from the usual shotgun mics. The noise level is extremely low, due to the RF design. The directivity pattern is a little wider than mics like the Sennheiser 816. This can be an advantage, or a disadvantage, depending on your application.Compared to most shotgun mics, the low frequency extension is far greater You will need to use a high pass filter for most dialogue or exterior recording. Also missing is the strong high frequency boost, often found in similar microphones The NTG3 makes a useful spot mic for music recording.Overall, the sound is natural and extended, lacking the dry pinched effect sometimes associated with shotgun mics. For outdoor use, the supplied foam windshield is inadequate. Budget for a full basket windshield in this case. You might get away with a WS7 furry on calmer days.I would always recommend personal auditioning, rather than relying on reviews if possible.

Bon produit
