Stant OE Equivalent Fuel Cap

The check engine light came on in my 2006 ML350 recently. I pretty much freaked out! After I calmed down I headed down to the local Auto Zone to have them pull the code. They laughed at me, said I didn't put the gas cap on tight enough when I got gas last time, cleared the code and sent me on my way. A day later the light was back on. After some Google searches I decided that perhaps my 6 year old, subjected-to-the-Arizona-sun gas cap might have been faulty so I ordered this one on Amazon. After all, a new gas cap is the cheapest fix around. And I'd rather try that before heading to the dealership where the bill will certainly be in the high 3 figures. My Prime membership got the new gas cap to me in 2 days flat - I love you Prime, I really, really do. I swapped the old gas cap for my shiny new one, screwed it on tight and headed back to Auto Zone one more time to have that pesky Check Engine light cleared. And I haven't been back since. This gas cap is a perfect replacement at a phenomenal price - other online sellers were at least $10 higher.

This cap, made by Stant, a long recognized name in the automotive industry, fit my Nissan Xterra perfectly. I was admittedly concerned about the warning inside my fuel tank door indicating I may get a warning light if my fuel cap wasn't seated properly but, I am using this cap with no issues so far. The only caution I have to pass along is that unlike the factory cap, there isn't a plastic tether that attaches it to the vehicle, so it is possible for distracted people to drive off. However, what I do is simply place the cap in the factory rest inside the fuel access door so it isn't possible to close it without first putting the cap back on the fuel pipe.

We have a 2005 Chrysler Sebring sedan that kept occasionally getting the check engine light (Code P0456 EVAP System Leak - very small leak). I was pretty sure our gas cap was the original one, so over 10 years old. I tried out this replacement and as soon as I switched it out, the next time I started up the car, the light went away, and hasn't been back on since! It has a much tighter fit, which is a good thing. I'm going to see if I can re-attach this to the tether like others have tried.Update 2016-04-27: I keep finding the fit on this fuel cap to be really, really tight. Challenging for me to unscrew for fueling, and not sure that my wife would be able to. Had the code P0456 come back as well, so not sure if the problem was actually fixed by this new cap, or if it's a problem somewhere else.Update 2016-10-28: I haven't had any check engine light codes for quite a while now! I occasionally check to make sure this new cap is in tight all the way, either I don't screw it in too tight, or it manages to get itself slightly loose, but it hasn't been a problem since.

Recently my mother forgot to put her gas cap back on after filling the tank in her car. Think most of us have done that at least once, I have, and she needed a replacement, this is a perfect OEM fit and better cost wise than the local parts stores who had to order it and said 3-5 days and Morse exspensive. This was available and was at my mother's house in 2 days, and she had no issues installing it. Thanks
