Sleuth is a classic detective game where skillful questioning of opponents is needed as each player gathers and records evidence. The winner must use his powers of deduction and logic to identify the missing gem. The simplicity of the rules and the cards belies the depth of this game. In some cases you see cards, in other cases you only hear the number of cards that an opponent holds. The notation system you devise must be both flexible and reliable, as you record both positive and negative answers; eliminate possibilities one by one; and arrive at the correct solution to the mystery! Monad is a fascinating and skillful card game where advance planning is essential as each player attempts to strategically trade, buy and leap his way from the lowest cards to the highest. This is one of Sid Sackson’s best games—though still relatively unknown. It’s a highly strategic game, yet game play is easy enough for any novice to learn quickly. Partnership play is also an option. Venture offers a great adventure in the world of high finance and big business, where budding tycoons follow in the footsteps of Carnegie and Rockefeller, wheel ’n deal and often become involved in proxy fights to gain control of key corporations. Each player manipulates vast holdings, gigantic conglomerates and millions of dollars. The object of the game is to build a profit-generating financial empire which yields the greatest returns at the end of the game.

An excellent collection of games for everyone
I have been playing board games since I was a kid in the late 1960s. The games have changed a lot over the past few decades, so it is difficult to get new people to play older games. The most success I have had in introducing some of the older games to the newer players is with Acquire, which is a classic hotel investing game, but there isn't as much interest with some of the others. This collection is of three great games by the legendary board game designer Sid Sackson. Sleuth is a deduction card game where players are looking for a hidden gem. Monad is a trading and buying card game where you use your "warm and cool" colors to gain an advantage, with a little of the rummy style. Venture is a tycoon type business card game where you try to build your companies and avoid takeovers. There is something for everyone in here and all three games are easy to teach/learn and fun to play. I also found that the mere theme of Monad was enticing for my wife and some of my female relatives who don't regularly play games because they use their "warm and cool" colors in their everyday life to make their fashion and home decorating choices and strategies. These are great games for people who might like to play games, don't really want to play a "roll and go three spaces" game, but don't want to play a massively intense and involved game either. The price for this three game collection is less than most of the big games out now and only a little more than one light game might be. It's a good selection because it gives you options for just a little bit more.
