Q: How does an item like this give moist heat? Do you wet it first?

No wetting. Just follow the heating directions. I'm not sure how the "moist heat" is created other than the gentle steaming effect of the mask on the eyes, but it's quite effective. To know more, you should ask the maker.

Q: Do I need to take my contacts out when using?

Sorry but I do not have contacts. However, the pads do get pretty hot and I certainly would take them out it it were I.

Q: After washing the mask is says that it is typically reusable after 12 hours. I can't wait 12 hours for it to dry. Is there any way I can speed it up?

I actually laid mine out on paper towels and used my hair dryer on "cool". Worked fine, but I turned it over several times to be sure it was getting uniform air. Then I left it for just a couple of hours and it was ready to go.

Q: Can the mask be worn all night to sleep in and keep the lids closed?

I don't see why not. But, would you really want to use it like that and wear it out. Sleep mask are really not that expansive and this heating mast really should be use for it's intended purpose.
