Great quality and versatility.
We bought 2 of these for frequent short trips in Europe. They are small enough to be free on every airline, but are thoughtfully designed and able to hold a lot. We can pack for a long weekend in just these and save tons on baggage fees. They are comfortable to wear fully loaded and the additional strap on the back makes them super easy to attach to a rolling suitcase for longer trips. I do recommend adding some zipper pull locks to secure your items from theft, but that is the only feature that they didn’t think of when designing these. 5/5 definitely recommend!

A+ Air/Road Worthy Softshell Suitcase/Backpack Hybrid
This is a incredibly well-designed soft shell suitcase/backpack hybrid made from recycled plastics, with quality backpack straps and plenty of sensibly placed pockets. Straight up wish I found this bag sooner in life. The frontmost pocket on the outside has a small opening to run a charging cable through it, cool. Under the top handle is another big, flat pocket, perfect for quick access stuff. The main compartment (and another on the front) fold open like a suitcase. There’s an elastic X-brace with a simple buckle clip on the inside, to help stuff from sliding/organized. More pockets along the inside of the main “flap.” This whole thing is pockets and sturdy zippers for them (not YYK, but after a week+ of heavy use, they were never an issue). Four compression straps on the outside, and a meshy pocket on one side for whatever else you have left to pack? If you can’t fit it in here, you don’t need to take it with you.I EASILY fit a pair of 10.5M merrel hiking shoes, a large pair of astronomy binoculars, and about a week of clothes, essential toiletries, couple knickknacks and had some room to spare. This and a backpack and yer all set for the skies. I just did Delta and United, no troubles. My ONLY qualm in the design might be the location of the snap-buttons for the backpack straps. They feel oddly out of place after you unsnap them in order to adjust the backpack straps — but where they happen to be located helps keep the extra bits contained when you tuck everything in and throw it in the overhead. Traveling with another backpack/under seat bag, the two well-padded handles on the top and side are perfect for carrying the bag without the backpack straps at all, so quasi-cosmetic preference maybe.99/100 would buy again in the next life, but this might be still be there then and I wouldn’t need to

Very well designed
I bought this with a bad attitude. It was the largest backpack I could find that still would work with United’s personal item size restrictions. My bad attitude was with United, but I was worried this wouldn’t hold much. I was wrong. Bought one for me and my husband because we had two trips planned on United and when I received it I was surprised at how much they actually hold. And very well organized. And it was light weight and sturdy. The large section opens like a suitcase and that is a plus, but when you are on the plane and only want to get into it from the top, and not open it up completely, you need two zippers that start at the top. My husband’s had that and mine didn’t. It had only one zipper that started at the bottom so I had to open the whole thing to get something at the hotel or in the plane. I returned it to the company with no problem and got a new one within 2 days that had the double zipper. So I can say the product is great and so is the costumer service. Couldn’t be more pleased! Still annoyed at Inited tho!

really good contender for perfect personal item
I ordered a half-dozen bags and returned them after picking this one. It's not perfect, but it was the best all-around bag I could find as of now.Good: I really like the top little passport/ticket pocket. It's easy to get to whether carrying the bag around or having it strapped to your carry-on. The size is really good. You can carry larger backpacks as personal items on some airlines, or even use the larger ones as carry-ons themselves. But if you're looking to maximize your "personal item" and want it to conform to pretty much all, including the more strict European airlines, this is the size you need. I found I liked the side handle as much as the top one. Sometimes it was just easier to tote it around like a briefcase, and this one can do that... most don't, and instead have another water bottle holder. The quality of construction was decent. The zippers were smooth, the canvas-like material was sturdy enough. It looks like a good back pack. Aesthetically, it has zippers going across and down in front and breaks up the space visually. Some bags just look like a flat surface, which for me is a bit dull, so I like the look of the bag. That's a completely subjective take though. I liked how the bag opened like a suitcase from the front. It was easy to pack and get stuff out. What was unique to this bag was that it opened folding to the side rather than at the bottom end. It feels more like a suitcase than any other bag I checked out, specifically because of this feature. Others felt like a backpack that just peeled all the way down to the bottom instead of half way.Where they could make the bag better: The material was fine, but some bags come in a material that is a little more bullet proof so to speak (perhaps polyester)... they seem a little more water resistant/scratch resistant. I'd pay to upgrade to that material. The quality of the zippers and straps are decent, but there are better ones out there. I had one bag where the zipper was super smooth and a bit sturdier, but the bag was way to big for my needs. The straps on one bag (Hynes Eagle) were more securely sewn in/attached at the top and under the straps it wasn't the breathable pad that many of the backpacks have, which seem vulnerable to snags, it was just a more durable strap all together. I wanted to take those straps and put them on this bag. And finally one bag (Beraliy Travel Backpack) had a zipper near the top where you could unclip the bottoms of the straps and tuck the straps into a pouch at the top, completely concealing the straps altogether allowing the bag to look even more like a briefcase style carry-on when you want. I would choose that option over the snaps this bag uses to secure the straps when in briefcase mode. This sounds like I'm being a bit critical of this bag, but I did like it. It definitely served its purpose. Other bags in this size had less, and bags that had more were too large... they became carry-ons which isn't what I needed. A couple more nit-picky things... I liked the water bottle holders on some other bags better. This has a stretchable cloth which is functional and better than some that had mesh ones. I wonder how it will hold up down the road. Others had a pouch made of the same material as the bag with elastic straps to keep it tightly held to the side of the bag when not in use. I liked those a bit more. Some bags had a zipper at the bottom giving access to a pouch for dirtier things like shoes. While it does take up space inside the main compartment, if you decide not to use that bottom pouch, it doesn't take up any space. So having something like that added to this bag would give it a little more versatility. And finally some bags had a secret pouch stored on the backpack where the bag is pressed against your back when you're carrying it, which would make it nearly impossible for someone to pickpocket that compartment. That would be an easy enough addition to this bag. But thats a place where you put some cash/id when you're not in the airport. While in the airport the top zipper pouch on this bag is soooo useful. And there are bags with an expander zipper, which is great if the bag is going to be your primary carry-on... not as useful for a personal item bag, as you can't deploy that extra size without changing the status of the bag. It would be a feature that would make a bag like this more flexible for different uses without taking away from its use as a personal item, so that would be worth considering if remaking this bag. I haven't found the perfect bag yet. But this one is a really good one for it's intended purpose of being a "personal item" bag. Decent quality, opens like a suitcase (it really feels like a mini one) zippers in the convenient spots, can carry it different ways, aesthetically pleasing, and not just the right size for all airlines, but also great for slinging into an uber that's taking you to the beach, or to hike a castle. It's not too big to be a burden when you're out and about... easy to slip under a table at a cafe, without looking like you're headed to the airport.

Fits as a personal item, but so much room!
I love that it opens completely, like a suitcase--it makes packing so much easier, and I can get so much into it. All of the different pockets and compartments provide space for organizing things, especially things you need to reach quickly, and the laptop compartment is padded nicely. The straps are comfortable, too, and it's nice to have a water bottle pocket. Overall, a great deal!

This is a very nice, versatile and large capacity bag.
Great quality and style. Perfect for weekend trips and travel. Gives you lots of extra space and meets airline size requirements for under seat cabin bag.

Well designed and lightweight
Item arrived quickly and is well designed and lightweight. There is really good space in the main compartment as well as really useful exterior pockets. There may be a trade-off on long term durability given the lightweight construction but time will tell and in the meantime this is ideal for.some short flights I'm taking over the next year.

Fantastic Travel Backpack
This backpack held up extremely well during a recent month-long trip to Europe. It looks surprisingly small when it arrives in a compact box, but rest assured, it can hold a LOT! Its many compartments are perfect for hiding and storing all manner of items, including an excellent floating pouch for my Lenovo laptop. The water bottle pouch is large enough to also hold a bottle of wine (useful when in France!). What is more, even fully laden and heavy, the shoulder straps held up strongly with no sign of tear. The backpack usually fits under an airline seat as well. I would recommend this without hesitation, and will be getting one for my spouse. Zero complaints.

Great Personal Item Bag for Travel but A little Too Small
If you are looking for a compact small personal item carry on to fit under a seat, this is it. Seems to be of good quality, lots of pockets and good layout. However, it was a little too small so I had to return it. A 15" laptop will fit - barely. You will have to slightly stretch the bag over the corner of the laptop. By the time you add cables, mouse, a sweater, and a bag that holds liquids and medication, there is not much room left for anything else. At that point you are probably better off with a basic knapsack. If it was a 17" or 18" (height) by 12" or 14" (width) by 7" or 9" (thickness), it would be absolutely perfect as it would give you a little more room to play with. Again, it depends how compact of a bag you are looking for.
