Materials failure
Boots were for my son, 16, and looked good, fit really well (wider feet) and gave great grip. Bought at the end of September 2023. He was really pleased with them *but*:Unfortunately the shiny coating/top layer on the uppers started peeling away in a few spots within a couple of wears. I thought this wasn't really very promising but was too busy start a dialogue with Canterbury at the time. Unfortunately, the problem got worse and (see picture) a good portion of this top layer has come off at the business end of the shoe. The boots look really scruffy and more importantly they've lost what little waterproofing they had and get soggy in the areas where the coating is off pretty quickly and I'm concerned that the structure is failing where the upper meets the sole in the areas where the coating has peeled-off. I'm about to resort to gaffer tape repairs, at the end of January 2024, so it's looking likely he'll need another pair for the second half of the season, which is disappointing.I appreciate that rugby boots get a lot of wear and tear, but I expected a trusted brand like Canterbury to produce boots that can go at least a whole season. My son isn't even a forward, but one of those fancy-dan, glory-hunters on the wing, so it's not like they've been severely tested. Two stars because they're a good design excepting the material for the upper. If you're trying to replace leather then this composite/plastic (whatever it is) needs to be better (unless my pair suffered a quality control fail in the manufacturing process).I hope Canterbury can factor my comments into their design/manufacturing process, but I'd also like to hear from them re these boots being merchantable quality. I didn't think I was getting cheap plastic boots for £64.99.
