Best home karaoke I've own
I am an audio enthusiasts and have semi pro dj set-up for small events, mostly karaoke. I can't use it at home , it will be over kill. I was looking for a small set-up for home karaoke , something minimalist to match my jamo and klipsch home audio and found this absolutely beautiful small but powerful home karaoke unit. Pros - quality build, mic response, clarity, simplicity, price, multiple options for input and output [hdmi and optical] wow. I got compliments today 1st time using it. Cons - non so far, but I hope this unit lasts longer as I plan to use it weekly. Lastly, im using the TV optical output to this unit then output optical to my Denon receiver, so then I have options to use the different audio settings, not just plain stereo. Amazing sound quality. Buy it, you won't be disappointed.06/19 update , I tried using it for a small bday event about 100 people and open air venue. The performance was okay but it drops ones in a while when your about 50ft or more away. I still get nice voice quality though.

It's not their fault...
Like many, I noticed a big delay. It's not the device's fault - at least it wasn't for me. The HDMI in/out feature is begging for people to plug this sucker into TV/receivers that have a built-in delay already. You never notice it because the video/audio are synced perfectly when watching TV. But when you are singing, holy moly any delay is crazy annoying and makes karaoke awful. I *had* to plug this unit directly into my soundbar and have the TV handle the video/audio from the Apple TV. It sounds great. I just have to switch audio on TV to internal only, and also switch soundbar input to Aux. Probably could have saved a little money by buying something without the HDMI in/out feature, but whatever.

SHAME ON AMAZON!
It has taken me a long time to review this item because I normally don’t review but it’s necessary. I ordered this for my daughter and I to use and have some karaoke fun. When the box arrived , I allowed her to open because she’s a pre teen that was excited so she’s going thru the box and looking for instructions for use. Well thank goodness I was close to hear what was next. As she’s reading these instructions, I hear things that are not makings sense and then she says mom I can’t find the buttons or settings that are on the instructions so I look at it myself and realize that the instructions are not for 2 mics but for some type of adult toy!!!! Sure , it’s pretty comical BUT when your child is asking questions that are things she has never heard before as a parent it’s upsetting, more at Amazon that this actually happened. I calmed down a little , we set up the mics- doesn’t sound the best and I did read reviews prior to purchase so now I’m thinking that I just received a faulty product. Hey it happens, but when I called amazon customer service to tellThem what happened and had the representative laugh it off a few minutes I was serious and told him hey do all of these boxes contain the same instructions and obviously they don’t know so I told him I wanted to escalate not to get a refund but to let them know that they should be more careful when putting things together in the facility before sending and obviously checking before it ships. So now I have 2 mics that I didn’t even bother to return that are pretty crappy and had quite the frustration to go with it. Again, perhaps this is just the one I received that’s faulty but the sound quality is not the greatest and doesn’t connect easily so it’s a quick step process the instructions are very vague.

Easy to get up and running, some quality control issues and gimmicky features
The media could not be loaded. My family wanted to upgrade our karaoke system and I thought this would be an easy way to get up and running with our TV and soundbar and an open-source karaoke system to queue Youtube karaoke videos. It did its basic job of mixing microphone input with the the karaoke feed from youtube but the tone and music adjustments seem to do very little to alter the sound from the microphones. Also, the light up buttons don't stay lit after initial power on, one is bright, others are dim or vary in brightness. I found little difference in effect between Echo and Reverb, but there is a difference from just leaving the effect at Normal, so I just left it on Echo all the time.If I could rate this SoundTown SWM15-MAX more precisely, I would rate it 3.5 stars as it's a kit that includes what you need to get up and running with minimal effort. For my setup, I connected a linux computer running an opensource karaoke application for queuing youtube karaoke songs to the HD IN port, then HD out to my TV, which outputted the audio to my Samsung soundbar. Microphones sound good and had no issues with wireless range. Vocal volume is on the low side since the effect buttons have little effect. On some videos, the music was too low but the music adjustment also had little noticeable impact. There doesn't seem to be a way to pair the microphones to the base so if you have to replace them, you might have to buy the same brand. However, one of the reasons I chose this model specifically is because I already have microphones with wireless 1/4-inch receivers so I could easily plug them into the front jacks and use them.I think a better option for me would be to buy a mixer and use my existing microphones that would allow me to have more control over the sound and overall function.
