Just get it!
So, after returning the Erbaur plunge saw due to it being absolutely garbage. I did lots of research and for the price, this track saw is absolutely amazing. Clean cuts and glides through MDF like butter. It's so much quicker and less fuss than a plunge saw. I own an evolution mitre saw that I've had for years and it's never let me down and I have no doubt this track saw will be the same. Unbeatable for the price. Just wish it came with track clamps.

Fear not th 'Save money, buy used' label.. I got a brand new saw in a tatty box for half price.
Bought this as I'm selling my house and needed a few jobs done and th beloved had been angling for a circular saw for a while.I'd bought th evolution mitre/bevel chopsaw thing for her birthday present, and that worked really well, so when I decided to buy a circular saw, I decided to see what evolution offered. I've had decent tools all my life (grandads tip, buy good, buy once), so I looked at established makes, but unless I was selling a kidney, th good models were well beyond th price range I could afford. Th Evolution model that I could justify buying for possibly only a few tasks looked a tad weedy too, so I looked at th more expensive range, even reduced, they were a bit expensive, then I noticed th 'save money buy used,as new' tag. I was sceptical, that old saying about if something looks too good to be true it usually is...but, it's thru amazon, you get th same guarantee and all that, so, I ordered one, it said it was as new but th packaging was damaged, cost 51 quid. It turned up th next day, and yes, th box was all taped up and battered, and th cord looked like it had been unravelled, but th blade was new and in its packaging, there was no sign of any actual use, so perhaps it was an ex display, I dunno... I've used it, it works brilliantly, made new kitchen kickboards and fitted some new doors using it. Absolutely faultless. So, if you've been a bit concerned about a little known make, sold as a second, as mine was, my experience has been absolutely positive, for 50 odd quid I've got, what seems and feels like, a really good product with a blade that makes an angry wife's tongue seem blunt. I have no hesitation in recommending evolution as a brand, at least with my admittedly limited use so far, but that's exactly why I bought it, for these few jobs, hence my tight wallet, if they complete another task, that's a bonus, and I get th feeling, there's going to be many bonus jobs to come. It's well equipped, as you'd expect, depth adjustment, and you can cut levels and there's a parallel guide, and it all feels pretty good and th instructions all make sense, yeah, I read instructions, that's why I've got all my fingers and all th cuts were straight... honestly, if I needed 2 circular saws, I'd buy another tomorrow, and it'd still be cheaper than th equivalent name brand, but as well appointed.

Many positives, and a few grumbles
February 2025I bought the Evolution R185CCSX, for 84GBP, to replace an aging but still functional Bosch PKS 46. I’ve not used a track saw before, and the CCSX included a 3-piece track in the box. I tested it today, with the track, on 18mm plywood. Many positives, and a few grumbles.Moan 1: The printed instructions are comprehensive, but the A5 format is just TOO SMALL for clarity. Fortunately, Evolution UK offer a 2018 PDF version on their website. Happy days.Moan 2: The 3-piece track does not come with any clamps. Also, Evolution only sell clamps when you buy extra track. Non-Evolution separate clamps are available from Amazon, but a bit of a lottery that they will fit. Nobody publishes the clamp finger size. For reference, the extrusion clamping cavities [x2] are 12.2mm wide x 6.2mm tall.Moan 3: The Amazon blurb said it comes with an EU plug. Wrong. It comes with a UK standard 3-pin plug. Great, if only I hadn’t ordered a lovely matching orange separate UK 3-pin plug.Praise 1: Good price. I’m also in the market for a table saw. As this was my first experience with the Evolution brand, I thought I’d check their quality before I stump up 330GBP on a R255TBL.Praise 2: It’s quiet, at least it is quieter than my old Bosch. It doesn’t specifically say it has soft start, but it feels like it.Praise 3: Beautiful cut. Not sure how much this can be attributed to the new TCT blade, but I am very impressed with the nearly zero tear-out on the backside.Moan 4: The tracks have a thin strip of white flexible plastic, adjacent to the cut line. A very small amount is removed by the blade on the first cut, and then it can be used to position the blade very accurately for subsequent cuts. Good idea, except on one of the 3 tracks it isn’t stuck on properly for the first 2cm. The double-sided tape isn’t strong enough and the plastic has lifted. Not bad enough to send the whole lot back to Amazon, but annoying. My feeling is that a 45-degree chamfer on that leading edge would protect it better.Overall: Pretty good effort Evolution, 4-stars.Today, using the new track, I had one annoying experience, slightly self-inflicted. Without any proper clamps, I decided to use duct-tape to secure the track to the workpiece. It worked well, BUT. . . twenty minutes later, the tape adhesive had made a very strong bond to the anodised aluminium track. As I peeled the tape off, 50% of the goo remained on the tracks; not pretty and definitely not welcome. The tape was a good brand, a cold day, no sunshine, and as I said, only 20 minutes in place. It washed off with some washing-up liquid and a good scrub, but I have not experienced anything like that before. So, reluctantly, I will have to buy some new clamps.

A great track saw system at a great price (compared to other more professional saw systems!).
I'd been toying with replacing my Ryobi circular saw as it failed to cut perpendicular to the piece. This was on offer with 3 pieces of short track (which I've since added to with longer tracks), the Ryobi is now redundant. The multi-blade cuts through wood like a hot knife through butter, and the tracks ensure accurate cuts. I've since purchased 3 other Evolution tools and none have given me any trouble, or let me down. The saw will run on a number of other track systems, although not all have the same method of adjoining tracks (Evolution has a double bar system, Makita has a single thicker bar fitment).

Great circular saw
Great circular saw, cuts a varied array of materials, wood, copper, metals, this can be bought with a guide too! Or can buy the guide as an add on later should you want one, does the job well, easy to use, I love it? I bought this without the guide but will more than likely buy one later for big board cutting? So it’s a versatile machine overall, can be connected to a vacuum too! Most guide on the machine are thumb type screws one needs an Allen key but not required mostly

DIY must have!
Brilliant piece of kit. Perfect for DIY. Sturdy, nice quality, regulations are easy, clean cutting, long cable, well balanced, track is a must have IMO. Wait for the right moment to buy and you can grab a bargain.
